SYNOPSIS:
Artificial Intelligence poses an existential threat to our existence, our ways of connecting and being in community and, our spirituality.

The Esoteric festival draws people who are committed to thought experimentation, community and social justice. This provides a container to consciously and creatively explore and reshape the future we want for artificial intelligence. This is an opportunity to participate in community-led decision-making and identify ways to grow the values embodied at Esoteric beyond the festival container in our own communities.

During the workshop we’ll run through creative activities to explore our fears and hopes for artificial intelligence. Together we’ll co-create a vision we want for our communities. The creative activities will draw on Participatory Futures* techniques to collectively unpack and reshape our relationship with artificial intelligence.

The workshop will focus on the importance of recognising First Nations ways of being and knowing and, the value of situational knowledge from marginalised communities who are strategically disadvantaged by the rise of artificial intelligence. By doing so, we seek to prioritise perspectives that are excluded from technological discourse and development.

*Participatory Futures is about recognising that the future is something that should be shaped collectively and collaboratively. It aims to democratise the process of imagining and planning for the future by including a diverse range of community perspectives and knowledge.
